The new First Hill line is scheduled to open in 2013. Operated by the City of Seattle, it will serve “major work centers including Swedish Hospital, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle University and Seattle Central Community College.”
The existing South Lake Union streetcar, 1.7 miles in length, opened in December 2007. A US transportation video company called Streetfilms has posted a four-minute video showing the operation of the line.

In the City of Vancouver, mayoral candidate Suzanne Anton continues to promote a Granville Island-to-Waterfront streetcar concept. She suggests that the new line would be operated by the City and partners, and not necessarily by the regional transportation authority. Incumbent Mayor Gregor Robertson takes the position that expanding bus transit would make more sense.
